auto start and stop hand pumponly 16 kg, can lift 720 litres/hour works on a 12 volt DC

Developed by Vishwamurthy Hegde (of Balekuli, a remote village in Siddapur taluk and a dropout from 1st year diploma), this lower power consuming auto start and stop hand pump, weighting only 16 kg, can lift 720 litres/hour to a height of 30 meters from a borewell of any depth without a submerisible motor and works on a 12 volt DC!!!

This pump can work on solar energy, LGP, biogas, by pedaling, kerosene. It can be used in open wells, tanks, lakes and can be used for watering fields at low cost.

The technology is centered around eco friendliness, less fuel consumption, and work efficiency at an affordable rate. The Balekuli pump has received recognition by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), Ahmedabad

Mr Hegde uses a mix of old and new parts assembled in equal ratio. The discarded parts of different old engines, bikes or cars with a little improvement are blended with new parts in the products.

Need to iron clothes for next morning and no Press around - No Fret

Since hostel days we learnt that there is no need to carry a bulky press when traveling. And now it helps me whenever I'm traveling.

Fold your clothes the way you would pack them, making sure you did not leave any unwanted creases while folding. Then put them under a heavy object. The best bet is under your mattress. Your clothes will be pressed by morning while you sleep on it.

Who said sleeping on the job will not get good results.

Ginger Tea - Best Cold Remedy from the Orient

Ginger Tea

The Best Cold Remedy from the Orient.

In both ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, ginger is considered the best home remedy for colds. Drink a cup of ginger tea several times (at least 3 times) a day. Ginger contains a dozen antiviral compounds. And it tastes good.

To make a tea, add 1 heaping teaspoon of grated fresh gingerroot to 1 cup of boiled water. Allow it to steep for 10 minutes. If you use dried ginger powder use 1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon of powdered ginger per cup. Drink warm.

Sip the tea slowly. Don't gulp it down. Swish it around the mouth before swallowing. This helps the liquid to mix with the enzymes in the saliva and rapidly assimilates the herbs into the blood stream.

This herbal tea, one of the best cold remedies, helps handle fever and reduce achiness, congestion, and inflammation associated with common cold. This is very useful for common cold and fever.

Water pump converted to car for Rs40,000

Using bumpy rides to power your bicycles

Riding on bumpy roads where often an inspiration for vituperative remarks. Now here's one who looked at the positive side. Kanak Das (29 yrs old), hailing from Mori Hira Gaon, Morigaon, Assam, has devised a way to convert those bumpy rides to pleasure rides. On August 15, 1999, he hit upon an idea where he thought using the energy from those bumpy rides to propel the rear wheel. After he few attempts he managed to create one. The mechanical energy from the bumps is stored in a battery of six springs placed under the pedal. The result is a cycle that does not slow down when it hit bumps but accelerates from the power generated from the bumps.

Now, wouldn't one wish to have a bumper pleasure ride.

Broadcasting seeds made easy

Hand throwing is the common method used in Broadcasting seeds. Hand throwing is very inefficient as it involves a lot of time in broadcasting seeds and the distribution is in a haphazard manager. This inefficiency inspired two indiviuals to come out with their own mechnical based seed broadcasters.

Dharmendra Patidar, hailing from Janakpur-Mokhan, Nimuch District, Madhya Pradesh has created a battery operated seed broadcaster made of a tinned cylindrical container. The container contains a fan driven by a battery power from a torch. The speed can be regulated to determine the quanity and distance the seeds need to be thrown. The equipement weights 800 grams and costs Rs 280.

Premjibhai Patel of Rajkot has developed a petrol-driven mechanical blower that could be mounted on a jeep and helps in spraying seeds up 15m. The device costs around Rs. 12,000. The direction of wind, wind speed and the speed of the vehicle are factors that need to be considered in spraying the speeds evenly. The machine can be used to broadcast a large amount of seeds in a far lesser time. In one year along, using these machines, Mr. Patel broadcasted ten tons of tamarind seeds in villages around Ahmedabad.

Now with such low cost and efficient seed broadcasting shouldn't our farmers be adopting such practices?

Tea Pot - A Life Saver @ 8000 feet

Tea Pot - A Life Saver @ 8000 feet

In a Royal Airforce incident, a TEA POT became a life saver at 8000 feet above ground. The crew of the plane used the teapot as a " JUGAAD" to plug a hole in the aging airborne Nimrod aircraft.

The crew was flying from Cornwall in southern England to its homebase in Kinloss Scotland, and the crew of the craft known as submarine hunters dropped a sonar buoy into the sea from 8000 feet. After releasing the buoy the latch to close the door wouldn't close, leaving a hole where the cold air from outside was rushing in . Thats when the crew if the flight used the TEAPOT to stop the airflow...

Interesting use of the TEAPOT there isn't it.....
